LT-STM/AFM group

(unofficial page)

Our research group is a part of the Peter Grünberg Institut 3 located at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

We use low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (LT-STM) and atomic force microcopy (AFM) to investigate adsorption of large organic adsorbates on various surfaces.

Our goal is to develop an intuitive understanding of the complex adsorption behaviour of large molecules because we believe that such intuition is vital for further progress of nanoscale molecular engineering.

Conducting our research we explore and extend the limits of scanning probe microscopy in application to imaging, spectroscopy and manipulation of atomic and molecular objects.

We are also developing a cryogenic STM cooled by an adiabatic demagnetisation refrigerator (ADR).
